The stone crushers at Tvillingvann

Per Magne (65) and Daniel (20) create a fast-working and synchronized father-and-son team at the quarry at Tvillingvann. The combined noise of the three-armed mobile screening machine, the wheel-loader and the excavator is deafening - from the outside. But Daniel assures us that it's quiet, once inside the cockpit.

Father and son control the big machines with ease, steering wheels made redundant by joysticks. Per Magne and Daniel have moved, shoveled and crushed several tons of rock, pebbles and sand during their six-week stay in Ny-Ålesund; material that will be used for road construction later this summer.
