Kongsfjordhallen is now open

Ny-Ålesund's newest building, Kongsfjordhallen, is now open for use. The building houses all of Kings Bay's heavy machinery, but it also has a brand new conferance hall on the second floor.

The first group to use the new conferance facilities was NILU-AGAGE. The group, with representatives from across the globe, has used the Kongsfjordhall as a base for their yearly meeting. The building's top floor contains two large lecture halls, a kitchen, restrooms, and a lounge. Kongsfjordhallen will be used for lectures, conferences, seminars and other gatherings .

The need to store heavy machinery indoors during the winter months has been a a need for Kings Bay for a long time. This is to minimize the wear and tear of the equipment during the dark season. Ny-Ålesund has also been lacking proper conference facilities, and to solve this, the Gym has regularly been converted into a conference hall for larger groups. Kongsfjordhallen is therefore an important addition to the facilities in Ny-Ålesund.
