This year marks the 25th anniversary for NIPR in Ny-Ålesund. For this occasion, the whole town, alongside with a delegation from Japan and a number of specially invited guests, partook in a workshop focused on High Arctic Research in Svalbard and talks about further international collaboration on the 7th of September. The productive workshop was held in the newly completed Kongsfjordhallen.
After the workshop, all participants moved to the second conference room for an icebreaker, which included the traditional ceremony of opening a cask of Sake using wooden hammers, as well as other beverages, finger food and jovial conversations.
During their stay, the Japanese delegation visited a number of research stations and facilities in town, as well as taking a scenic boat trip in Kongsfjorden.
