Official opening of Ny-Ålesund Museum

This summer, Kings Bay finished the new museum exhibit in Ny-Ålesund. In October, alle involved was invited to the official opening of the Museum.

The recidents and scientists of Ny-Ålesund atended the opening and ribbon cutting seremony. The exhebition shows in texts and pictures, the early history of Ny-Ålesund, when it was a mining town. Seince science has played an important role the last 50 years, the new exhibition also focuses on this aspect of Ny-Ålesund's history. The loft of the building has been dedicated to the attemts to reach the North Pole in the 1920ies.

The new exhibition has been financed by Svalbard Environmental Fund, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kings Bay, Svalbard Museum, and private contributor Per Kyrre Reymert. Stein Domaas designed the exhibition, and has had a big role in both the planning and making of the exhibition. Per Kyrre Reymert and Svalbard Museum contributed with texts and pictures.

The Museum is ment not only for visiting tourists, but also the inhabitants and scientists in Ny-Ålesund.
