The Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) is a part of the Research Council of Norway (RCN). It works as an information and coordination organ for research on the whole of the Svalbard archipelago. SSF also keeps an updated record of infrastructure, logistics, research bases, application processes, and other relevant topics for scientists and research projects coming to Svalbard.
Additionally, SSF manages the research project database (RiS) to keep an updated and comprehensive overview of previous, ongoing and future research to be carried out on Svalbard and in Ny-Ålesund. The SSF office is located in Longyearbyen.
Kings Bay AS works closely with SSF and requires all researchers coming to Ny-Ålesund to register their projects in the RiS database first. Only then they are able to book their stay in Ny-Ålesund.
