Kings Bay AS
Ny-Ålesund is a centre for international arctic scientific research and environmental monitoring. Kings Bay AS main task is to manage valuable natural and cultural environments and to be a facilitator for Ny-Ålesund Research Station.
We run the community, take care of our common cultural heritage and supply infrastructure services, but also offer other services that contribute to greater research coordination and collaboration.
Land use plan
Kings Bay owns the Kongsfjord Property (treaty property 38/1) and is responsible for the Ny‐Ålesund planning area under Section 48 of the Svalbard Environmental Protection Act.
The delimitation of the Ny-Ålesund planning area is determined in Norwegian Regulation FOR-2002-06-28-650. The planning area is 25 km2. Prins Heinrichøya, Dietrichholmen and Mietheholmen are included in the planning area.

Transport and logistical service
All bookings and reservations to and from Ny-Ålesund are issued by Kings Bay, not Lufttransport.

History and cultural heritage protection
Ny-Ålesund has Svalbard’s largest collection of automatically protected cultural heritages that date to before 1946.
Community Operation
All the buildings and community services are operated by Kings Bay.
Accomodation, meals and shop
In Ny-Ålesund there is one shop and several rooms are rented out to researchers, consultants and visitors.

Handling of coronavirus in Ny-Ålesund
Kings Bay A/S follow the situation closely and adhere to the guidelines of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health: General advice to the public.
The need for new measures is assessed on an ongoing basis. In the meantime Ny-Ålesund will operate as normal.

Forvaltningsplan på plass for Ny-Ålesunds fredede bygg
Kings Bay AS sin forvaltningsplan for freda bygg er nå ferdigstilt. Ny-Ålesund er et av de 100 prioriterte kulturmiljøene på Svalbard, og Kings Bay AS har ansvar for å ivareta 27 automatisk freda bygninger, 11 verna bygninger og kulturmiljøet Ny-Ålesund i sin helhet....
Ny administrerende direktør
Styret i Kings Bay har ansatt Hege Walør Fagertun som ny adm. direktør i Kings Bay AS. Stillingen er et åremål på 3 år. Fagertun starter i stillingen i juni 2025 og etterfølger da adm. direktør Lars Ole Saugnes. Hege Walør Fagertun er i dag kommunedirektør i Salangen...
Rayleigh-spredning over Ny-Ålesund
På søndag sørget fenomenet "rayleigh-spredning" for et fantastisk fargeshow på himmelen over Brøggerhalvøya. Et sjelden fenomen å se med så stor intensitet. De sterke rød- og rosafargene på himmelen kommer av lyset fra solen. Solen befinner seg nå omtrent åtte grader...
